How it Works

1
Get-to-know-you

During session:

  • Icebreaker

  • Overview of mentorloop process

    • Discussion of certification opportunity

    • Graduation gift (starbucks / Duncan gift-card - sponsored) - have to complete all six sessions to be eligible

    • Ground rules

      • Attendance policy

      • Difference between therapy and coaching/mentorship

      • Communication policy with mentor (i.e. what are the rules around communicating with your mentor). Slack account.

  • Identify mentees needs

    • Come up with a process that involves “buckets of needs”

    • Define the mentee’s overall objective

  • Mention idea of the mentor to pair mentee with - give description, get buy-in

  • Get them excited to move forward

  • Establish a weekly meeting time (make sure you have the mentor’s schedule available)

After session:

  • Send email or slack message connecting the mentor with the mentee

Goal Setting

What do you want to achieve by the end of 6 sessions: What will make you feel like the program was a success? How will you measure success towards your originally-defined objective?

  • Create a calendar and set target milestones for each session ahead of time (i.e. homework help, language help, social outlets, strategies for making friends, etc.)

  • Identify 1-3 milestones total, depending on how involved each goal is. Perhaps setting an ultimate goal and micro-goals

  • Identify roadblocks to achieving these goals

  • Start working on goal number 1

After session:

  • Send mentee a review of what was discussed.

  • Include a plan and any homework (printouts, resources, etc.)

  • Remind them of the day and time of their next session.

3
Tackle the Goals

Review what was accomplished in the prior meeting

  • Ask if they have questions.

  • Ask what they learned the prior week or from their homework that was valuable for them.

  • Review the "goal" for the day's session and confirm this is still what the mentee wants to work on (sometimes things come up and they want to address that topic).

  • Start teaching, guiding, exploring resources, etc.

  • Check in with them to see if they feel they are getting closer to their goals - address any questions or concerns.

  • Wrap up and commend their progress and commitment.

After session:

  • Send mentee a review of what was discussed and achieved in the meeting. Commend their work/progress etc.

  • Include a plan and any homework (printouts, resources, etc.)

  • Remind them of the day and time of their next session

Final Session Graduation
  • Refer to the first session and the goals that were mentioned/set.

  • Make a list with mentee of their successes (i.e. learned math, improved their English, made a friend)

  • Make a list of resources they think could be useful for them

  • Suggest they set goals of their own each week after completion of Mentorloop

  • Ask what they can do on their own time to feel accomplished

  • Commend them on their commitment to the program and list what you see as their accomplishments

  • Tell them they earned a Dunkin gift card
